The New Path of Iran’s Art

Mojdeh Tabatabaei, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Tehran Art Galleries Association, said: "We have prepared three important events for the second half of the year 1404 (Sept 2025 - Mar 2026) and the Spring of 1405 (Mar - June 2026); events that are planned to both make the art market more cohesive and solidify Tehran's position in the region and the world."
According to HonarOnline, Mojdeh Tabatabaei said: "The Tehran Art Fair project has been designed with a strategic outlook; strengthening the art economy, expanding cultural diplomacy, and creating professional opportunities for galleries and artists are the main goals of this path. We have planned three consecutive steps: starting with Open Paper in the fall, continuing with the Tehran Art Month in the winter, and reaching the peak in May 2026, which is the holding of the Iranian Modern and Contemporary Art Fair with the maximum participation of galleries."
According to the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Tehran Art Galleries Association, this three-stage movement is not just about holding a few exhibitions, but an effort to establish a new institution in Iranian art—an institution that is professional, independent, and at the same time connected to the world.
Tabatabaei added: "Art fairs are the pillars of the art market in today's world. They are the link connecting galleries, artists, collectors, museums, and even cultural policymakers. Iran, with its brilliant history and contemporary capacities, deserves to hold such a position. However, the absence of an international art fair in the country has caused us to remain distant from the main scene. Today, as regional countries are defining the future of visual culture with large investments, Iran needs a serious and independent art fair—a platform-based event that truly has quality and credibility."
Concluding her remarks by stating that an art fair is not just an event, but a platform for future-making, she said: "Iran, with all its challenges and capabilities, needs such a platform now more than ever; a place that both honors our cultural roots and opens the doors of communication with the world."
The Tehran Art Galleries Association has announced that more details about the series of Tehran Art Fair events will be published soon.
